Price Methodology
Every number on this site can answer two questions: where did you come from, and when were you last checked. This page is the standing answer.
Sources
Nutrition (calories, protein, carbohydrate, fat, sodium, sugar, fiber and declared allergens) comes from KFC’s official published nutrition guide. Reference prices come from KFC’s app and website listings, collected on the review date stamped on each page. Franchise operators set their own final prices, so every price on this site is a national reference rather than a guarantee, and the app shows the exact figure once a restaurant is chosen. Program facts on the guide pages come from KFC press releases, the vendors that operate the programs, the parent company and federal agencies, and each guide lists its sources at the foot of the page.
Review status
Each figure carries one of two marks. ✓ AUDITED means cross-checked against the official source on the stated date. ◐ REF. means a reference figure not yet verified against the official source, published only when clearly marked and queued for verification. Where an official figure does not exist, the page computes it from published components with the arithmetic shown (a family meal’s calories per head, a bucket’s price per piece) or states an estimate as a range and says so in the text.
The value grade
Grades are computed, not opined. An item’s score is its percentile across the whole tracked menu, weighted 40 percent price per calorie, 40 percent price per 10 g of protein, and a 20 percent sodium penalty (sodium per calorie); lower cost and lower sodium score better. Grades publish only once at least eight items carry complete data, and they recompute whenever prices or nutrition change. Two classes sit out of the pool on purpose: sauces and drinks. They are priced as add-ons, and grading a 59-cent dip cup on protein economics would be noise dressed as signal, so their pages carry the raw numbers instead. Family formats are measured per head rather than graded, since a bucket has no single serving to score; their pages split calories and sodium by head from the component figures.
Availability status
Every item carries one of five states: standing, limited time, regional, ordered as a build in the app, or not on the current national menu. Nothing is deleted. A retired item keeps its page with the last listed price and full nutrition, and a renamed item points to its successor, so a reader who saw a price last year can find the record.
The change log
When a reviewed price moves, the move is recorded on the public price change log: old price, new price, date. History is never silently overwritten. The editorial policy covers writing and updates, and the corrections policy covers errors.
